Wedding Photography 20 Years Ago
As the album layout artist for HyStudio, I go through a lot of wedding photos—I mean, we're talking gigs per wedding. I also have a few pro-photographer friends who constantly blog, tweet, and feed me photo-inspiration to nourish my photography-inclined soul; in simpler terms, I look at a lot of photos, particularly wedding photos—but never thought to flip through my parents' dusty album until now.
With the invention of the digital camera (and I guess, energy drinks like Redbull), photodocumenting the entire wedding became the new trend—but back in the day, people actually went to photo studios to have their wedding photos taken. Instead of having the cathedral, the vineyard, or the beach in the background, there were fake walls and windows. Instead of having candid "cutting the cake" photos, there were, well, very contrived poses. But my parents were drop-dead gorgeous, and that's all that mattered.
These were taken twenty-one years ago—exactly nine months before I was born. (I was told that I was a mistake, but I'd rather think that my parents were simply going for efficiency, ya know? But heck, these photos also raise the possibility that I was adopted, because obviously, I didn't inherit any gorgeous genes. After all, one can only be so lucky for having a birthday like 9-11.)
